About

An expedition nine years in the making.

The DMTx Project began in 2017 with a question: how could we make Extended-State DMT real, in the world, safely and legally? This is what happened next.

Daniel McQueen
The DMTx Project

From a 2016 email to a working program.

In 2016, Dr. Rick Strassman forwarded our founder Daniel McQueen a paper he had just co-authored with Dr. Andrew Gallimore — a pharmacokinetic model proposing how DMT experiences could be safely extended for the first time. The idea quickly took the international psychedelic community by storm.

What followed was a decade of work — through research-setting exploration, retreats in Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Brazil, and finally, the path that worked: operating in Boulder, Colorado under the religious-use protections of the 2022 Natural Medicine Health Act.

33 journeys later, the protocol is dialed in. The team is in place. The community is here.

The full introduction letter from Daniel

DMTx, short for Extended-State DMT, has inspired the international psychedelic community as the peak experience of all psychedelic medicines. The protocol was first theorized by Dr. Andrew Gallimore and Dr. Rick Strassman in 2016. DMTx uses targeted infusion medical technology to stabilize and extend the generally much too short and much too fast smoked DMT experience. This application of the technology creates a slow onset and stabilizes the DMT state at any level of intensity, from subtle to breakthrough experiences, for an indefinite period of time. The infusion can be turned off quickly for safety reasons, quickly completing the journey within a matter of minutes, or a psychonaut can slowly "glide" down at their own pace for a gentle landing.

There is no other psychedelic medicine experience that elicits this amount of personal agency and depth.

The technology is a breakthrough in psychedelic practices and is currently being researched by scientists around the world, with other research programs joining the movement every year. When I first started talking about my interest in DMTx in 2017, I shared stories of the great explorers of the world. On great ships throughout antiquity, humans have always been explorers, and what better way to explore in 2026 than to know thyself and the Universe within each of us. I called these journeys TransNirvana Expeditions at the time for this reason — true expeditions into very real Transpersonal Spaces of the Sacred and Divine.

Our team has been working on the DMTx Project for 9 years now, and over the last three years, since the Natural Medicine Health Act passed in Colorado legalized the personal and religious use of natural N,N-DMT, we have conducted 33 DMTx journeys to test and refine our protocol. In 2025, we recruited 12 psychonauts from the psychedelic community to further dial in the process, and we have now fully integrated the DMTx Project into our larger psychedelic ecosystem — our psychedelic therapy center, training program, and our newly established psychedelic church, which we describe as a "psychedelic mindfulness community of practice." We are excited to offer DMTx service as part of our psychedelic program moving forward.

We can confirm the profound nature of the DMTx journey experience. Our clients report meaningful healing and life-transforming realizations. While everything you've read about the "more real than real" nature of the DMT experience is very true, including meeting entities and exploring new realms of possibility, the one trait that is most difficult to describe is just how uniquely meaningful these journeys are for each participant. One psychonaut said to me, "Daniel, I came in with a list of seven questions that were vitally important to me, and through your guidance, I realized when I reviewed the list after my journey, that every single question had been addressed in significant ways."

We are ready to offer these experiences to members of our community who wish to launch their psyches into DMT Hyperspace for an extended stay through private, individual, couples, and small group retreat experiences.

Accessibility to diverse communities and affordability are important to us, and we have established a scholarship program and an accessibility group, kindly named "The Away Team," for those who are ready to launch into the multiverse. We continue our mission to make this experience as accessible and affordable as possible.

It is difficult to describe the profound nature of these experiences and how gentle they can be. Unlike the fast onset of the typical DMT session, we offer a slow onset and titrate into the intensity, all the way to the peak of DMT and beyond. Journey durations depend on the psychonaut and are one to three hour full DMT experiences. The sessions themselves are 4–5 hours in length, and uniquely tailored to each psychonaut by me and my team.

Your time with us is solely yours, unless you come with a friend, or want to share the preparation and integration sessions with a small cohort of allies and new friends. Thank you again for being inspired to join the expedition and reading this letter. We look forward to launching into the multiverse with you!

As always, Safe Travels — Daniel

The Center for Medicinal Mindfulness

The oldest aboveboard psychedelic center in the United States.

Established in 2012, CMM is a service-based psychedelic therapy center and community of practice — not a retreat resort, not profit-motivated. The DMTx Project is one of its core programs.

Founded 2012

The oldest aboveboard psychedelic plant medicine center and training program in the U.S., specializing in psychedelic cannabis, ketamine, psilocybin, and N,N-DMT.

Church Since 2025

Medicinal Mindfulness Foundations is registered as a psychedelic church in Colorado, providing federal religious-use protections in addition to the NMHA.

Community of Practice

A psychedelic skill-development practice and a sincere expression of sacred communion within a framework of positive social service.

Boulder spirit
Boulder, Colorado

An international destination for psychedelic services.

At an elevation of around 5,000 feet, Boulder is a small mountain town nestled by the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Since the Natural Medicine Health Act passed in 2022, it has become a primary epicenter of psychedelic services in the United States. Hiking, fine dining, and specialized healing professionals are common in the area.

About Boulder — full description

At an elevation of around 5,000 feet (or 1,524 meters), Boulder is a small mountain town surrounded by beauty and nestled by the Foothills of the Rocky Mountains, known as the Flatirons. We are an international destination for the healing arts and a primary epicenter of psychedelic services in the United States since the Natural Medicine Health Act passed in Colorado. Hiking, fine dining, and specialized healing professionals are common in the area.

The Legality of DMTx in Boulder, Colorado, USA

In 2024, voters in the state of Colorado passed the Natural Medicine Health Act (NMHA), which legalized the regulated use of psilocybin mushrooms, as well as legalized the personal and spiritual use of mushrooms, non-peyote mescaline, and DMT. The sacrament is gifted through the church and is legally protected by both the NMHA and federal religious-use protections.

Important Information About the Sacrament

Our sacrament is natural N,N-DMT, derived from Mimosa hostilis root bark, sustainably sourced, and extracted in compliance with the Colorado Natural Medicine Health Act in a professional lab by an incredibly gifted organic chemist. It is triple-tested (by the lab, and two other independent labs) for safety and potency, and placed in single-use vials in preparation for the DMTx experiences.
